Let not your heart be troubled

charles loveWell, America, Georgia, Floyd County and Rome, the people have spoken. The recent national election has given a voice to frustration and indifference to many disenfranchised Americans.

It is time for calm, thoughtful, and level headed thinking to move this country, state, and community forward. I must admit, I was surprised at the outcome of the national election, but we must not spend too much time in limbo at that surprise. (more…)

Change in Washington; change for the Democrats

The Republicans are now completely in charge of running this country. Donald Trump will be our next president.

While the results of the election are clear, the consequences of the vote tally remain to be seen. So, what’s next for our country? What’s next for the Democrats? (more…)

The strangest dream …

gary batchelorI claim — somewhat tongue in cheek — that I am really quite a conservative in that I treasure the “good old days.”

However, for me the good old days are the mid-60s. Though my nostalgia is for an admittedly idealized version of those days of tumult, there are very real similarities to 2016.

Most apparent in my mind is the level of division and mistrust between different groups. Then and now, change, mistrust, and challenges to the status quo were everywhere. (more…)
