Hope For the Future- The Education of Our Children

Last week I told you that Floyd was better than only 171 other counties of the 2478 in this nation in which to grow up poor, according to a Harvard University report. I offered a few reasons as to how we came to this place of ignominy. Today, I offer the reason that our Governor and Legislature decided to remove Education as our State’s first priority?

Surely We Are Better Than This

There was a recent study done by Economists Raj Chetty and Nathaniel Hendren of Harvard University which studied the economic impact of growing up in each of the 2478 counties in the United States. The article may be found in The Quarterly Journal of Economics and is entitled “Where is the Land of Opportunity? The Geography of Inter-generational Mobility in the United States.”
