Expand Social Security – don’t destroy it

I wrote a column recently about how your congressmen and senators are attacking Social Security. They are still at it and the storm clouds are rising.

The Republican Party appears to have decided to renew its campaign to reduce benefits as a part of the upcoming 2016 presidential campaign.

One of the numerous GOP candidates, Chris Christie, just announced a proposal that would destroy the Social Security system as we know it. We have now lived to see the day that politicians will publicly admit to what George W. Bush only tried to do clandestinely. (more…)

Black lives matter; so do blue

The horrible news of the shooting death of Walter Scott in North Charleston, South Carolina, is another shocking blow to the notion that racial discrimination is not a problem in today’s America, the land of equal opportunity. I hope my friends and neighbors who believe that the issue of race is overblown, or used as an excuse by blacks for their failure to work hard and get ahead, will now give up that myth. (more…)

If the answer is that you do not long for Armageddon — that you are willing to continue work in your spring garden and leave the end-times plans to God — then the time has come to start screaming to the top of your lungs to Georgia Senators Johnny Isakson and David Perdue and Northwest Georgia Congressman Tom Graves to stop the madness before the first shot is fired. A vision for Georgia

The greatest fear among legislators is losing one’s seat, and the age-old thinking is that the best way to see defeat at the next election is to raise taxes. This has been the litmus test for Republicans since the 1980s when George H.W. Bush first mouthed his infamous quip “read my lips.” (more…)
