Trickle-down failed, the chickens are home to roost

The article in Thursday’s Rome News-Tribune saying that the sheriff is to sue Floyd County for failure to adequately fund his constitutional office is the realization of the failure of trickle-down economics.

Begun under the watch of Ronald Reagan, the trickle-down approach has been bad economics for our country — and Sheriff Tim Burkhalter has just now received the official notice of failure. (more…)

Bridging the divide of race – Do we have an obligation to act?

Soon after the jury’s verdict acquitting George Zimmerman of the murder of Trayvon Martin, writer and theologian Jim Wallis wrote an article entitled “Lament from a White Father.” In it, he calls our attention to the fact that we still live largely in a segregated society — one where life’s events are played out before two separate audiences whose interpretations of them will be far different — unable to be reconciled even by people with good intentions and who feel they harbor no racial prejudice. Chuck Hufstetler is one of a kind

Chuck Hufstetler, our state senator, has proven himself to be a man of courage, one willing to stand against the tide of public opinion in order to do the right thing for the people he serves. This is indeed an uncommon trait these days, especially in a southern state legislature so strongly against anything proposed by the sitting president. (more…)
